My twelfth episode of Renaissonic Radio at KCHUNG. 1 full year at the station. Grateful as always for the platform and the drive it gives me to keep searching for beautiful, timeless music. 2 hour mixed bag of soulful Youtube deep cuts, a small D/Angelo tribute, African funk and psychedelia, and some new goodies from my favorites Charlotte Dos Santos and Keiyaa. Thanks for listening.
The third rendition of “In the end it’s all jazz” is out! A collection of songs for Springtime in Los Angeles. This series highlights first and foremost some of my favorite artists/music I’ve been listening to on the regular. On top of that, I strongly believe that all artists/music shared pay homage to the roots of Jazz music, and are all examples of how far the genre has travelled and progressed since its foundations in the Black experience. Always worth repeating: Jazz is liberation. Jazz is freedom. Jazz is rebellion. Jazz is peace. Jazz is international. Jazz is Black.
I’ve started a new mix series titled “Offshoot Radio”. Each mix will focus on a certain genre and its many offshoots that have innovated the sound and honored its past. Generally will be more uptempo genres. First mix is a collection of some of my favorite house tracks from the past 30 years. Perfect for a workout, biking, walking, dancing, vibing, etc.
As of October 2024 I’ve officially become a resident radio DJ at KCHUNG Radio, a non-profit radio station based in downtown LA. Been wanting to do this for a while, and I’m happy to be given a space to create and play around with music that I love without any strict format. A recording of my first session is up on Soundcloud — bare with me, I am quite the novice at radio etiquette…
The second rendition of “In the end it’s all jazz” is out! I want to make this a more consistent thing. Both mixes so far are full of songs that I love and am incredibly moved by no matter how many times I hear them. “In the end it’s all jazz” deserves a thematic statement at some point, but in essence I view it as a return to roots; and examination and appreciation of how the conditions and culture under which jazz was born and how it has come to flow through so many aspects of our lives. Jazz is liberation. Jazz is freedom. Jazz is rebellion. Jazz is peace. Jazz is Black. I take into account all of these truths when curating these mixes.
My “In the end it’s all jazz” mix from earlier this year is featured on NYC-based Broadcast Radio‘s 14th installment of mixes! Find it on their website on Station 4, Harlem River Radio, or above on Soundcloud (or… listen to it here on my Soundcloud page ;) ).
I made an hour-long mix to submit to NTS’ Supporter Radio program; this time the theme was “music for heatwaves”. I’m a huge fan of many NTS resident DJs such as Ruby Savage and Zakia for their fresh, eclectic shows, so I took on this challenge with their curation styles in mind. For this mix I wanted to tell a story of longing on a hot summer day. Longing to be free from the Sun’s searing gaze and to let loose in the night. A condensed (90 minutes) mix that I re-recorded from my latest “Curated Sounds” Event at La Sabina Wine Bar in Culver City. Great night; vibes were high; music was on point. This set was a mix of mostly house and soul edits, ending with a nice little Jungle/DnB section. Listen here or check out my Listen page for an up-to-date list of mixes I put out!
